Varifocals: When vision deteriorates with age

With age the efficiency of the body decreases. For example, it becomes increasingly difficult for the eyes to focus on things properly and thus produce sharp images.

With the help of special exercises for the eyes and a healthy diet, vision can be supported. But this is not always enough, so that a visual aid in the form of glasses or contact lenses is needed.

Presbyopia – short arms and narrowed eyes

Over time, the elasticity of the lens of the eye decreases, making it increasingly difficult to see sharply at close range. Between the ages of 40 and 50, presbyopia begins in many people.

Suddenly the eyes are squeezed together or the arm is used as an extension to perceive objects correctly. These are the first signs.

Both the brain and the eyes now have to work harder and exert more effort. As a result, not only the visual performance deteriorates, many also suffer from tired eyes and even headaches.

If the arm is suddenly no longer long enough and squinting no longer helps, a visual aid is needed.

What exactly are varifocals?

Unlike conventional glasses, models with progressive lenses cover all visual ranges. Arranged from top to bottom, the lens is ground for the distance range, the medium close range as well as the near range.

The structure is self-explanatory. The distance range allows correct vision in the distance, the near range everything that is directly in front of the eye. This is thus helpful, for example, when reading.

The intermediate range or. the medium near range is intended for all objects between the distance and near range.

The advantages of varifocals

Anyone who suffers from a deterioration of vision can only benefit from varifocals. Thanks to the three different visual ranges, only one pair of glasses is necessary.

This not only eliminates the need to constantly put on and take off different pairs of glasses, but also saves a lot of money.

In addition, it has an aesthetic advantage because, compared to bifocals, no dividing line is visible, and thanks to the numerous frames, varifocals can be ideally selected for all everyday situations and tastes.

Probably the most important aspect of varifocals is that the vision itself is much more comfortable. The three sections flow smoothly into each other, so that there are no abrupt demarcations.

Those who choose to wear varifocals should be aware of two things. On the one hand, the purchase price is higher, and on the other hand, the eyes need some time to get used to the new way of seeing.

During this phase, dizziness and headaches may occur, but this will subside after a few days.
